Dear Buffalo State Colleagues,
I am delighted to report that my wife, Ronnie, and I have successfully completed our move from Missouri to New York and are settling in at 152 Lincoln Parkway. We couldn’t be happier to be in Buffalo!

Formation of College Senate Standing Committees

If you wish to serve on a College Senate standing committee for the 2010-2011 academic year, please visit the committees section of the Senate Web site and complete the Committee Interest Form. Chairs of the standing committees will begin their search for new candidates soon. You must complete this form to be considered. If you cannot submit electronically, please print and complete the form, and send it via intercampus mail to the College Senate Office, CLEV 211, Attention: Vincent Masci, by September 1.

Request for Revisions

From the Chair of the Senate Curriculum Committee
Department curriculum chairs and associate deans, please note: if you received a request for revisions to courses or programs from the Senate Curriculum Committee, we urge you to complete them and get them to the Senate Office by mid-August. There are still many outstanding courses/programs that were approved by the Curriculum Committee, pending revisions. The course/program approval process is halted when revisions are not completed. Revisions are needed in order for the courses to be approved by the associate deans. Without the signature of an associate dean, the Senate Office cannot accept courses or programs.

Geography and Planning Researchers Focus on Woodlawn Beach State Park

The only sound louder than the bullfrogs is the birdsong, and the June morning mist is fragrant with wildflowers. This could be a hundred miles away from civilization, but if you look above the trees, you can see windmills turning where Bethlehem Steel once stood.

Faculty Spotlight: Charles Mancuso

When he first stepped onto the Buffalo State College campus as a freshman 50 years ago, nobody would have guessed that Charles Mancuso, ’66, ’69, would someday become a professor in its Music Department.

Students Receive First Funds from New Direct Loan Program

On June 8, the first Buffalo State students received their loan monies from the new federal Direct Loan program. The funds, which were disbursed to students enrolled in summer sessions, were credited to the students’ accounts.

Norvilitis, Schrembs Receive SUNY Chancellor’s Awards

Jill M. Norvilitis, associate professor of psychology, and Margaret E. Schrembs, secretary I in College Relations, have been honored with SUNY Chancellor’s Awards.

Scuffing Off the Buffaloes

Sarah McNulty, a ceramics student at Buffalo State College, works in a studio at the college in June, sanding down some of the 55 miniature buffaloes created for a fundraiser for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The miniatures will be given to local artists, who will paint them. They will be auctioned off in November.

Honor Roll / Recognizing the Accomplishments of Western New Yorkers

The Buffalo State College Foundation Board of Directors acknowledged recipients of the 2010 Chair’s Recognition Award at the foundation’s annual meeting in June. Foundation chair Linda A. Dobmeier presented the awards.
