Phase 1 of building construction will provide a multi-story glass atrium, an advanced imaging suite, and state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities for the biology, chemistry, earth sciences and science education, physics, and mathematics departments and the Great Lakes Center.
Phase 2
Project cost: $51.1 million
Construction start: Fall 2012
Construction completion: Spring 2016
North wing of existing building will be renovated in Phase 2, while the south wing will be demolished. Renovated north wing will accommodate the new Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium—a large, glowing sphere housed in a transparent framework.
