Chase Hall, originally named South Hall, was a "twin" to Cassety Hall when it opened as a residence facility for women in 1949.

In 1962, Chase Hall was named for Susan F. Chase, a member of the teaching staff of the Buffalo Normal School for 27 years. Chase was born in Shanghai, China, and lived in Buffalo intermittently from 1870 until her retirement from teaching in 1926.
